FWDM, is known as Filter WDM or Filter-based WDM. It is based on Thin Film Filter (TFF) technology. The Filter-Based WDM is extensively used in EDFA, Raman amplifiers, WDM networks and fiber optic instrumentation. The device combines or separates light at different wavelengths in a wide wavelength range. They offer very low insertion loss, low polarization dependence, high isolation and excellent environmental stability.
Baymro Technology FWDM product family covers following wavelength windows commonly used in optical fiber systems
  • 1310/1550nm (for WDM or DWDM optical communications)
  • 1480/1550nm (for high-power DWDM optical amplifier/EDFA)
  • 850/1310nm and 980/1550nm (for high performance DWDM optical amplifier/EDFA)
  • 1310/1490/1550nm (for PON/FTTX/test instrument)

Compared with fused fiber WDM couplers, filter-based WDM components have much wider operating bandwidth, lower insertion loss, higher power handling, high isolation, etc.

Available Options

According to its application, FWDM covers the following wavelength windows commonly used in optical fiber systems:
  • 850/1310nm FWDM - for multi-mode fiber communication, CATV and testing instrumentation
  • 1310/1550nm FWDM - for WDM or DWDM optical communications
  • 1480/1550nm FWDM - for high-power DWDM optical amplifier and EDFA
  • 1510/1550nm FWDM - for DWDM multi-channel optical networks
  • 980/1550nm FWDM - for high performance DWDM optical amplifier and EDFA amplifier
  • 1310/1490/1550nm FWDM - for PON, FTTX and test instrument
  • 1310/1550/1625nm FWDM - for testing active fibers in service
  • 1310/1490/1550/1625nm FWDM - for combining or separating 1625nm channel with three triplex wavelength 1310nm, 1490nm and 1550nm so that 1625nm channel can be added into the existing triplex FTTH system
In addition, the C Band/L Band Wavelength Division Multiplexer which is used to combine or separate C band wavelength signals and L band wavelength signals in DWDM systems is comparable to one type of FWDM because it is also based on Thin Film Filter Technology. The commonly used C Band/L Band Wavelength Division Multiplexers include the following types.
  • DWDM Red/Blue C Band Filter - Separates or combines Red band wavelength signals and Blue band wavelength signals in C band range in DWDM systems.
  • C Band Supervisory FWDM - Separates or combines 1500~1563nm and 1529~15nm optical signals in fiber optics Amplifiers system.
  • C & L Band FWDM - Separates or combines C band wavelength signals and L band wavelength signals in DWDM systems.
  • L Band Red/Blue FWDM - Separates or combines Red band wavelength signals and Blue band wavelength signals in L band range in DWDM systems.
  • L Band Supervisory FWDM - Separates or combines 1620~163nm and 1570~1605nm optical signals in fiber optics Amplifiers system.
